Theatre B concludes its thirteenth season with the World Premiere of ‘The Sweet New’ by Raymond Rea, a local playwright and filmmaker. ‘The Sweet New’ is Theatre B’s first commissioned play and will be a community collaboration with The Pride Collective and Community Center. The production follows three generations of an Italian-American family as they navigate emigration, assimilation, and transformation. Who is allowed to call themselves American? What is identity? What must you overcome to realize your vision of who you really are? ‘The Sweet New’ explores the journey to becoming one’s true self.
Raymond Rea is a filmmaker and writer from Moorhead, Minnesota. He has had both film and video screened nationally and internationally. Rea currently teaches film and video production at Minnesota State University Moorhead.
‘The Sweet New’ performances are scheduled for Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. from April 15-May 7 with Sunday matinees April 24 and May 1 at 2 p.m. The American Sign Language Interpreted Performance is on Saturday, April 23.
