Stop Playing with Your Food by Anna Kohnen
The exhibition of Anna Kohnen’s Stop Playing with Your Food. Kohnen’s work is a playful gesture of reigniting ones delightful aspects of childhood using childhood foods in vibrant prints.
Kohnen states, “This is a print series that explores the relationship between childish wonder, growing up, and looking back on “better” days. The series is a callback to a state of being blissfully unaware, this is not meant to bring up a specific memory but instead a positive nostalgic feeling. Each piece is based off a childish association but put in a new context to point out the nonsensical humor of the reality within each piece. Through the use of taking common and iconic imagery, the viewer can easily connect with elements in the piece and the abnormal or simplified setting creates a commentary. These works have a sense of reality that when paired with the cartoonish style creates a contrast. The misaligned layers of color in the prints emphasizes the skewed reality within the works.”
