DylanFest West: A Celebration of the Music of Bob Dylan
Regional musicians to honor legendary folk singer at ND Heritage Center
Fargo production company, Prairie Airwaves, announces a special tribute show honoring iconic American singer-songwriter, Bob Dylan. DylanFest West will take place live at the North Dakota State Heritage Center’s Russell Reid Auditorium at 2 pm, Saturday, February 25th with performances by some of the region’s most popular musicians.
Since the early ‘60s, musicians from every genre have been taking Dylan tunes and making them their own, perhaps most notably The Byrds, Jimi Hendrix, Sonny & Cher and Peter, Paul and Mary. Local musicians, performing in bars and coffee shops, also regularly rotate Dylan tunes into their own repertoires. Now is the time to take those uniquely North Dakotan renditions to the stage, coming together to celebrate with those songs at one big event -- in honor of Bob Dylan, a native of Minnesota and a one-time North Dakota resident.
DylanFest West is the brainchild of Merrill Piepkorn, Prairie Airwaves president and musician. Piepkorn says, "We’ve produced a couple of ‘sold out’ Dylan tributes in Fargo, much to the delight of the audiences and the performers. My Bismarck friends requested that we do one here. I thought as long as I was in Bismarck serving in the State Senate, we might as well do a show during the legislative crossover break.”
Nine acts featuring a total of 18 performers will be offering up their own unique stylings of Dylan tunes. “The talent of ND musicians never fails to amaze me,” Piepkorn says, “and having them come together for a great concert like this is truly a special occasion.” Scheduled to perform are Chuck Suchy, Jessie Veeder, Richard Torrance, Piepkorn and his Radio Stars band, Jeremiah James and the Prairie Drifters, Jennifer Lyn, Gravel and Glass, Darrin Wentz and The Flea Bitten Tramps.
Tickets are $25.00 (plus fees) general admission and are available at eventbrite.com, search for DylanFest West. The show will be recorded and played back at a later date on the statewide Prairie Public radio network. Show sponsors are Gate City Bank, The Printers, URLRadio, Laughing Sun, Prairie Public and KFYR radio.
