Registered Cass county. Born, Crawfordsville, Ind., July 27, 1888, of (nationality of parents not given). Occupation - salesman. Enlisted in Company B, 1st Infantry, North Dakota National Guard, at Fargo, on June 22, 1917. Calling into federal service, World War, on July 15, 1917. Served in Company B, 1st Infantry, North Dakota National Guard (Company B, 164th Infantry), to Jan. 9, 1918; Company D, 18th Infantry, to death. Grades: Mechanic, Dec. 7, 1917; Private, Jan. 8, 1918; Corporal, March 17, 1918. Overseas from Dec. 15, 1917, to death. Wounded, slightly, July 18, 1918. Engagements: Defensive: Montdidier-Noyon. Offensives: Aisne-Marne; St. Mihiel; Meuse-Argonne. Defensive Sectors: Ansauville and Saizerais (Lorraine); Cantigny (Picardy). Cited in General Orders No. 1, Headquarters, 1st Division, Camp Zachary Taylor, Ky., Jan. 1, 1920, for gallantry in action and especially meritorious services. Entitled to wear a silver star.
