Not a registrant, enlisted prior. Born, Dubuque, Iowa, Dec. 9, 1890. Enlisted in the Marine Corps at St. Paul, Minn., on May 13, 1916. Served in Central Division, from April 6, 1917, to Sept. 12, 1917; 97th Company, 6th Regiment, Quantico, Va., from Sept. 12, 1917, to Nov., 1917. Arrived in France Nov. 19, 1917, and served there to death. Grades: Corporal, Sept. 12, 1917; Sergeant, Feb. 15, 1918. Engagements: Toulon Sector; Aisne Defensive; Chateau-Thierry Sector; Aisne-Marne Offensive (Soissons). Awarded, Fourragere. 4 years prior service.
