Registered Steele county. Born, Portland, N. Dak., Dec. 14, 1891, of American-Norwegian parents. Occupation - farmer. Inducted at Sherbrooke on Sept. 21, 1917. Sent to Camp Dodge, Iowa. Served in Company L, 352nd Infantry, to April 1, 1918; Company G, 327th Infantry, to death. Grades: Bugler, Nov. 30, 1917; Private, April 1, 1918; Bugler, May 19, 1918. Overseas fro April 25, 1918, to death. Engagements: Offensives: St. Mihiel; Meuse-Argonne. Defensive Sectors: Lucey and Marbache (Lorraine).
