The North Dakota Department of Veterans Affairs maintains discharges from 1941 to present. This includes National Guard federalized service time and active duty training time.

We ask that you use our toll-free number (1.866.634.8387) when requesting a discharge. It is our responsibility to ensure, to the best of our ability, that the discharge is released only to the veteran or a "duly authorized representative."

The following information will assist us in locating the discharge in the most efficient manner:

• Veteran's name
• Dates of Service
• Service Number and/or Social Security Number
• Date of Birth
• Branch of Service

Information pre-1941 is very limited. The only source available to us is a four book series titled, "Office Roster of North Dakota Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines, World War 1917-1918."
