Fong: Tax Department Offers Online Interactive Tool to Find E-File Service
BISMARCK, N.D. – Tax Commissioner Cory Fong today encouraged taxpayers to use the Tax Department free interactive online tool before they select an e-file provider.
"The interactive tool helps taxpayers wade through the various online e-file providers," said Fong. "Taxpayers who don't know where to start or are not sure which company best fits their needs will find the online tool very helpful."
This year, six online companies offer free electronic tax filing for North Dakota taxpayers who meet certain criteria, usually based on income, age, or military status.
Thirteen companies offer to e-file North Dakota taxpayer returns for a fee, ranging from about $8 on up.
"Not all companies include North Dakota's tax forms," said Fong, "so it is important that taxpayers select a company that support the state forms. Starting with our web site, www.nd.gov/tax, our online tool will help taxpayers find the company that will provide the forms they need."
The Tax Department's free interactive online tool is available to help taxpayers determine which Free File offers for which they qualify. After answering a few simple questions the taxpayer will learn if they qualify for Free File. If a taxpayer does not qualify for a free service, the interactive tool will direct them to a listing of paid e-file providers that will file their federal and North Dakota income tax returns.
FThe free interactive online tool is available on the Tax Department web site at www.nd.gov/tax. For more information, visit the Tax Department web site, follow the Department on Facebook and YouTube, or contact the Tax Department at 701.328.7088.
