In conjunction with the Free File Alliance, North Dakota is now offering a new electronic method for taxpayers to electronically submit their North Dakota individual income tax return. North Dakota Fillable Forms is a free, web-based system that most North Dakota residents are eligible to use. Users enter data similar to filling in information on a paper form, but instead of mailing the information to the North Dakota Office of State Tax Commissioner, the user will electronically submit their North Dakota return. Important note: This system will not file a user's Federal income tax return.
To use the new North Dakota Fillable Forms, a taxpayer must be a full year resident of North Dakota; must have filed a North Dakota return in 2011; and must not be claiming any credits that require additional information or schedules. These credits include the Family Member Care Credit, Renaissance Zone Credit, Planned Gift/Qualified Endowment Credit, Mobilized Employee Credit, and Housing Incentive Fund Credit.
For over ten years now North Dakota has provided taxpayers with the option to electronically file their individual income tax returns through a tax preparer, by using the IRS Fed State E-file, or with the Free File Alliance. Use this simple interactive tool to find out which method to use. By answering a few easy questions, you will learn which method will work best for you. After you have answered the questions, you will also be given the opportunity to access North Dakota Fillable Forms if you would like to electronically file your state return using our new electronic option.
