New this year, is another e-file option for taxpayers who want to e-file their state return only. We call that option Individual Income Tax WebFile, and it can be used by individuals who are full-year residents and are filing simple tax returns with no additions, subtractions, credits or other adjustments.

Individual Income Tax WebFile is free and was designed for taxpayers who may have used an online company that did not support North Dakota’s forms or they chose to file a paper federal return. With WebFile, taxpayers may transmit their state return directly into the North Dakota Tax Department’s computer system.

WebFile is not for everyone. If you have not completed or filed your federal return, you might be better served by using one of the Free File or E-File companies. To use WebFile, you will need to have a copy of your completed federal form on hand.

To find out which method to use -- Free File, IRS E-File, or WebFile -- use this simple interactive tool. By answering a few easy questions, you will learn which method might work best for you.
