When are W-2s and 1099s due? Is there different dates for filing by paper or electronically?

Starting with 2016 information returns, both W-2s and 1099 MISC reporting non-employee compensation are due January 31st, following the end of the calendar year in which the income was paid. If you file electronically, the due date is also January 31st. All other 1099 MISC are due by February 28th, following the end of the calendar year in which the income was paid.
