In 2010, North Dakotans elected Cory Fong to a second four-year term as North Dakota Tax Commissioner. As Tax Commissioner, Cory Fong is dedicated to
Cory Fong applies the knowledge gained in the management of a large and diverse staff in the Tax Department coupled with his previous work experiences as Deputy Commissioner for the North Dakota Department of Commerce, Deputy Secretary of State and Director of Elections for North Dakota to advance strong working relationships between businesses and government. Cory envisions forging even closer working relationships between private industry and government to promote the continued expansion and diversification of North Dakota's economy. Cory promotes collaborating with other state agencies to focus on the state's five targeted industries -- energy, value-added agriculture, advanced manufacturing, technology-based businesses, and tourism.
Cory serves on a number of boards and organizations, including: as a member of the State Board of Equalization; member of the State Information Technology Advisory Committee; a member of the Legacy and Budget Stabilization Advisory Board; Chair of the Multistate Tax Commission (present); and President for the Federation of Tax Administrators (present).
Cory was raised in Helena Montana. He graduated from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington with a Bachelor's degree in political science and speech communications. Cory and his wife Cecily reside in Bismarck.
