Information Management & Technology Division - Responsibilities

The Information Management & Technology Division has two sections: Tax Processing and Information Technology.

The Tax Processing section is responsible for the initial processing of tax forms, payments, and correspondence received by the department.  Specific responsibilities of this section include processing all incoming/outgoing mail, filling orders, document imaging and quality control, data entry, printing, approving substitute forms, records management, and destruction of confidential tax information.  This section is also responsible for maintaining automation equipment, including a mail slicer, mail opener, paper folder, barcode scanners, and validation printers.

The Information Technology section is responsible for the oversight of the department’s information technology infrastructure, including management of all personal computers, laptops, servers, local area network, printers, copiers, scanners, and other devices.  Staff in this section coordinate with staff in other divisions of the Tax Department, other government agencies, and external software vendors to analyze and evaluate software needs and requests, and design, develop, test, and implement new applications and business processes. The Information Technology section also manages physical and computer security for safeguarding confidential taxpayer information to maintain compliance with state and federal laws.  In addition, this section is responsible for coordinating and managing electronic filing applications and providing technical support for the Tax Department’s website and intranet.
