Tax Department To Launch Online Refund Status Option
BISMARCK, N.D. – Tax Commissioner Cory Fong announced today that the Tax Department will be launching a new electronic service that will allow individual taxpayers to check on the status of their income tax refund. The new service will be available during the income tax filing season that starts January 2007.
“The online service is intended to allow individuals a convenient and easy way to obtain accurate and current information on the status of their individual income tax refund,” said Fong.
The Tax Department’s web site, www.nd.gov/tax, will have a “Where’s My Refund” link. Taxpayers may use the online refund system 24 hours a day seven days a week to check the status of their refund. The link will also be available on the home page of the state web site, www.nd.gov. Taxpayers who select the refund link will be taken to a secure online refund inquiry page where they can check the status of their refund. For security reasons, the Tax Department will require taxpayers to provide specific information that only the taxpayer would know, such as their social security number, their tax filing status, and the exact amount of their refund.
“The Tax Department asks for this information to be sure we are giving the taxpayer access to their refund information only,” said Fong. “Taxpayers will find it helpful to have a copy of their tax return on hand so they are able to provide the information needed in order to get the status of their refund.”
Once a taxpayer enters all the necessary information, they will learn:
- If the return was not received or if it is not processed
- If the return is being processed; or
- The date the refund was issued
