Program Objectives
To offer a full range of seed testing services in support of certification
programs, while expanding laboratory functions to accommodate increasing demands
for analysis of genetic characteristics associated with advanced breeding
programs, and regulatory obligations.
Services Provided
The State Seed Laboratory operates as the official certification laboratory
under ND Century Code. The Seed Lab performs germination and purity testing,
along with a broad range of other tests, in support of Field Seed and Regulatory
programs. As the cropping patterns change, the Seed Lab expands its range of
testing procedures accordingly. Specific trait analysis, such as herbicide
resistance, has become a high priority test development process in recent
months.
The Diagnostic Laboratory specializes in electrophoresis, ELISA and PCR
testing methods, primarily for potato virus, a broad range of seed pathogens and
genetic modification testing. The Diagnostic Laboratory supports Field Seed,
Potato and Regulatory programs. A key objective of the Diagnostic Lab is
development and implementation of test processes related to genetically enhanced
crops including chemical, disease and pest resistant varieties.
