Treasurer Schmidt was elected to the post on Tuesday, August 24, during NAST’s annual conference. “I am extremely honored to be elected to this prestigious organization,” Treasurer Schmidt said. “NAST has been a tremendous resource for me and my fellow state treasurers as we continue to work for the benefit of the citizens of our states.”
“Treasurer Schmidt is a conscientious, competent leader who has made significant contributions to NAST. There has never been a job too big for her to handle,” said NAST President and New Mexico Treasurer James Lewis. “She has chaired the NAST Foundation, served on the NAST Executive Committee as Senior Vice President and before that, as Midwest Region Vice President. She also chaired the NAST Program Committee, which was responsible for planning and organizing the successful 2010 NAST annual conference, recently held in Williamsburg, Virginia. As our NAST President in 2011, she will bring the professionalism she displays as North Dakota State Treasurer to the NAST organization, to be our energetic and capable leader.”

Kelly's integrity, strategic vision, and knowledge of public policy issues are exactly what is needed to move NAST to the next level of national service. I have always admired Kelly's dedication to serving her beloved State of North Dakota, and now the nation will have the benefit of her leadership skills."” said longtime Georgia Treasurer Dan Ebersole.
In addition to her duties as NAST President, Schmidt will host the 2011 NAST annual conference in Bismarck, ND.
