Treasurer Schmidt to Host National Association of State Treasurers’ Conference

Bismarck, ND - State Treasurer Kelly Schmidt has announced the selection of North Dakota as the host of the 2011 Annual Conference of the National Association of State Treasurers (NAST). This marks the first time North Dakota will host the event.

"I am honored that my fellow treasurers have selected North Dakota as the site of the 2011 Annual Meeting and thrilled for the opportunity to showcase all that this wonderful state has to offer," said Schmidt.

The conference is expected to bring more than 40 state treasurers along with state treasury staff and private sector financial professionals to North Dakota to discuss current policies and best practices. More than 300 participants are expected to attend. The conference is expected to generate approximately $1.3 million for the North Dakota economy.

“State Treasurers share ideas and solutions with each other all the time,” said Schmidt. “This annual event has proven to be the most productive way for treasurers to expand on these ideas and to benefit from the resources offered by public finance professionals nationwide.”

The National Association of State Treasurers, founded in 1976, is an organization of state financial leaders. NAST membership is composed of all state treasurers, or state finance officials with comparable responsibilities, from the United States, its commonwealths, territories, and the District of Columbia. NAST is recognized as a national force whose work has influenced public policy at both the state and federal levels. NAST is instrumental in developing and promoting standards of excellence regarding ethical conduct, policy guidelines and accountability, and model legislation and regulations.
