NDSD/RCDHH teachers and dorm counselors complete quarterly reports on the progress of each student. The reports, which shall include reports from teachers of mainstream classes, shall be sent to parents (or guardian). Copies shall be sent to non-custodial parents unless prohibited by court order.
To be eligible for placement on the honor roll, a student's academic progress must meet the following criteria:
- Superintendent's Honor Roll: All A's
- A honor roll: 94 - 100 %
- B honor roll: 88 - 93 %
As one measure of student growth and progress, quarterly reports are issued in academic and residential areas. The grades recorded reflect a modified curriculum to meet the needs of individual students.
Middle school students are evaluated using the following scales:
- Superior: 100 - 94 or A
- Above Average: 93 - 88 or B
- Average: 87 - 81 or C
- Below Average: 80 - 75 or D
- Not meeting minimum standards: N 0 - 74 or N
Developmental skills in academics, social skills and personal development and elementary students are evaluated using the following scale: Art and mini sessions for middle school and elementary students is evaluated as S/U (satisfactory/unsatisfactory).
- E - Excellent growth
- S+- Growth beyond expected level
- S - Satisfactory growth
- I - Improvement noted but not yet satisfactory level
- NI- Needs improvement
Kindergarten students are evaluated Satisfactory or Unsatisfactory on a checklist of age appropriate academic skills, work habits, and social skills.
Preschool students are evaluated using a checklist of age appropriate skills and progress.
Residential students are evaluated in the areas of grooming skills, eating skills, social skills, responsibilities, personal management skills, and knowledge of self and family using the following scale:
- 1 - Superior/ Above average
- 2 - Average
- 3 - Below average
- 4 – Unsatisfactory
