General Information
Records received by the North Dakota School for the Deaf from individuals are open to the public upon request unless otherwise specifically provided by law. Contact the school to inquiry about if the information you provide will be held in confidence or must be released upon request by a member of the public.
Student Information
Files containing information regarding individual students are not open to the general public under the provisions of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974. Release of such information shall only be made in conformance with the North Dakota School for the Deaf's policy on access of records, which may be obtained by contacting the school. The North Dakota School for the Deaf's policy does not release 'directory information' without permission of the parents and/or students over the age of 18. Directory information includes: name, address, telephone number, date and place of birth, major field of study, participation in activities and sports, weight and height of members of athletic teams, dates of attendance, diplomas and awards received, and most recent previous school attended.
Record information will not be released to most persons or agencies without the written consent of parents. To facilitate the prompt placement of the student in a new school, NDSD may forward school records without parent consent or the parents may request a copy of the records. Similarly, without parent consent, NDSD forwards transcripts, or other information requested by high school students to colleges and other educational institutions to which the students are applying.
