Proposing Name Change in 2009?

The North Dakota School for the Deaf (NDSD) management team, (consisting of staff members representing each department at NDSD) has discussed the possibility of proposing a revision to NDSD's name during the 2009 legislative session. In recent years, the school has taken on a dual mission and the team believes that the new name should reflect this dual mission by including (within the agency title) both the expansion of outreach services as well as the continued educational programming. One idea for the new name was suggested: ND Resource Center on Deafness & Hearing Loss/North Dakota School for the Deaf (similar to what the North Dakota Vision Services/School for the Blind (NDVS/SB) adopted several years ago). The management team is seeking additional ideas for the new name and invites responses from all of the following: students, staff, parents, alumni, and community members. Suggestions for NDSD's name change will be accepted through March, 2008. Please contact Superintendent Dennis Fogelson to discuss questions or concerns regarding this plan. Ideas or suggestions for the new school name may be submitted to: Lilia.Bakken@sendit.nodak.edu, or by calling 701-665-4423 (V/TTY). Suggestions may also be mailed to the North Dakota School for the Deaf, % Lilia Bakken, Communications Coordinator, 1401 College Drive N, Devils Lake, ND 58301.
