Resident: Adding lines of authority

Every applicant for an insurance producer license must qualify by passing exams for the lines of authority they wish to hold on their license.

As of Aug. 1, 2007, the law does not require classroom instruction for an applicant preparing for the examinations (preparation can be done by classroom instruction or by self-study). The applicant must pass the appropriate exams and make application to the Department within one year of passing the exam.

Study material and classroom schedules can be obtained from a number of prelicensing providers.

The education resources document near the bottom of this page contains a list of prelicensing providers offering classroom and self-study instruction.

Exams are administered by Pearson VUE. For additional exam information or to schedule an exam online, go to Pearson VUE's website. Here you will find links to the Licensing Information Bulletin and exam content outlines, locations of test centers, and you can make an exam reservation. To schedule an exam by phone, call Pearson VUE at 877.224.0235.

An applicant for the line of variable life and annuities, must first be licensed as a securities salesperson with the North Dakota Securities Commissioner (701.328.2910) ND Adm. Code 45-02-02-11
