Non-resident renewal
Non-resident insurance producer renewal requirements
Effective Jan. 1, 2010, in order to maintain an insurance producer license, every insurance producer, regardless of lines of authority, must biennially by the last day of their birth month:
• Complete a renewal application • Pay the $25 fee
Non-resident insurance producers whose continuation due date under current law is Jan. 31, 2010 must file a renewal application along with the $25 fee by the last day of their birth month in 2010.
Non-resident insurance producers whose continuation due date under current law is Jan. 31, 2011 must file a renewal application along with the $25 fee by the last day of their birth month in 2011.

Non-resident insurance producers who do not currently have a continuation due date because they are licensed only for one or more limited lines of authority (credit, surety, travel/baggage, title bail bonds or legal expense), and
Who first received a license in 2007 or earlier, must file a renewal application along with the $25 fee by the last day of their birth month in 2010. Who first received a license in 2008 must file a renewal application along with the $25 fee by the last day of their birth month in 2011.Who first received a license in 2009 must file a renewal application along with the $25 fee by the last day of their birth month in 2012.
Please note that there is no grace period after the due date. If not renewed before the expiration date, your license and appointments will be cancelled and you will have to reapply with an initial application and $100 fee.
The continuation fee is $25 and the NIPR electronic transaction fee is $5 for a total of $30 which can be paid by credit card. Click here to go to Electronic Non-Resident Licensing Renewal.
Read the instructions carefully and proceed as directed. If you have not successfully completed the entire process by the last day of your birth month in the year your continuation is due, your license and all appointments will be canceled. All fees are non-refundable so be sure to read everything carefully.
IMPORTANT: Make sure you answer all questions completely and disclose all information requested. You must disclose all criminal convictions and pending criminal charges. Question number one allows you to exclude misdemeanor traffic citations or convictions involving driving under the influence (DUI) or driving while intoxicated (DWI), driving without a license, reckless driving or driving with a suspended or revoked license and juvenile offenses. You must disclose all other criminal convictions and pending charges including, but not limited to, NSF checks and Minor in Possession. All criminal convictions must be disclosed regardless of when they occurred. If you have any questions about what needs to be disclosed, contact the Department before submitting your application.
Please note: The biennial continuation process described above is for individual licenses only. North Dakota non-resident business entity insurance producer licenses are perpetual without any renewal or continuation as long as the entity: 1) has at least one designated responsible individual producer who holds an active North Dakota insurance producer license for the lines of authority on the business entity license and 2) maintains its resident insurance producer license (if its home state issues insurance producer licenses to business entities).
