Initial non-resident licensing
Individuals
Applicants for an individual North Dakota non-resident insurance producer license can apply electronically through the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR).
The fee for an initial application for an insurance producer license is $100.

Please note that an applicant for the line of variable life and annuities must first be licensed as a securities salesperson with the North Dakota Securities Commissioner (701.328.2910). N.D. Admin. Code § 45-02-02-11
IMPORTANT: Make sure you answer all questions completely and disclose all information requested. You must disclose all criminal convictions and pending criminal charges. Question number one allows you to exclude misdemeanor traffic citations or convictions involving driving under the influence (DUI) or driving while intoxicated (DWI), driving without a license, reckless driving or driving with a suspended or revoked license and juvenile offenses. You must disclose all other criminal convictions and pending charges including, but not limited to, NSF checks and Minor in Possession. These criminal convictions must be disclosed regardless of when they occurred. Please read Bulletin 2009-2 for more information. If you have any questions about what needs to be disclosed, contact the Department before submitting your application.
Failure to make full disclosure may result in denial of your application.
Business entities - corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, limited liability partnerships
At least one individual who is affiliated with the business entity must hold a North Dakota license for the lines of authority requested.
The business entity should also contact the North Dakota Secretary of State (701.328.4284) to ensure compliance with North Dakota corporate law.
When issued, North Dakota non-resident business entity insurance producer licenses are perpetual without any renewal or continuation as long as the entity: 1) has at least one designated responsible individual producer who holds an active North Dakota insurance producer license for the lines of authority on the business entity license and 2) maintains its resident insurance producer license (if its home state issues insurance producer licenses to business entities) and 3) notifies the commissioner of any change of address regarding the business entity. (N.D.C.C. § 26.1.26.33 requires that within 30 days of address change the commissioner is to be notified).
