Special Consumer Alert - Poolman criticizes Humana - Demands information and seeks to protect North Dakota consumers

Posted on 5/31/2006

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEContact: Jim Poolman
May 31, 2006701-328-2440

Bismarck, ND - North Dakota Insurance Commissioner Jim Poolman today sent a letter to the Louisville, KY based insurance company Humana regarding a recent theft of Humana policy holders' private financial information, including names, addresses, social security numbers and bank routing information.

Poolman is concerned that Humana has not done enough to protect these consumers and failed to properly notify the Department about the theft. "They need to display concern for the consumers, because identity theft is incredibly dangerous for people," Poolman said. He added, "In my opinion, they've shown a complete disregard for the consumers that they're supposed to be serving."

Insurance consumers who think they may be affected by this theft should contact the ND Insurance Department at 1.800.247.0560.
