Bismarck, ND - North Dakota Insurance Commissioner Jim Poolman today issued a Cease and Desist Order against former Wimbledon insurance agent Duane Huber, following Huber's conviction last week on 19 felony counts for defrauding the Federal Government out of approximately $14 Million of farm program benefits.
"Huber's illegal conduct is appalling," Poolman said. "He violated the trust and confidence of people close to him, and we want to make sure that he is removed from the insurance business as soon as possible." He added.
In a separate administrative proceeding, Poolman will move to permanently revoke the license of Mr. Huber. "It is safe to say, this is not the type of person who should be permitted to hold an insurance license in this State," Poolman said.
Huber has a right to request an administrative hearing to contest the proposed revocation. The cease and desist order was served because the Commissioner was concerned that Mr. Huber would be conducting the business of insurance before his sentencing in February.
Poolman also said that his Department will conduct a separate investigation into the practices of the other insurance agents involved in the farm program scandal.
