Hamm: Be prepared for Labor Day weekend with WreckCheck mobile app Posted on 8/31/2012
BISMARCK, N.D.-North Dakota Insurance Commissioner Adam Hamm today encouraged consumers to download a new smart phone app ahead of the Labor Day weekend that takes the guesswork out of auto accidents. The free WreckCheck mobile app walks users through the process of creating an accident report following an auto accident.
The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) developed the mobile phone application, which is available for Android and iPhone users. WreckCheck helps users capture accident photos and collect the necessary information to file an insurance claim, and allows users to email it to themselves and their insurance agent.
"The amount of traffic increases significantly during the Labor Day weekend, and so does the risk of getting into an accident," Hamm said. "The WreckCheck app turns a stressful situation into an easy-to-follow, step-by-step process."
A recent survey by the NAIC revealed many consumers aren't sure what information to share after a car accident. Twenty-five percent of respondents indicated they would share their home addresses. Consumers generally only need to share their names and insurance information; sharing information like home addresses can be risky.
Visit the Insurance Department's website to download the free app. Consumers with questions or complaints about insurance claims are encouraged to call the Department at 1-800-247-0560.
