Hamm: Bismarck couple charged with insurance fraud Posted on 6/15/2011
BISMARCK, N.D.-North Dakota Insurance Commissioner Adam Hamm announced today that a Bismarck couple has been charged in Burleigh County District Court with insurance fraud, a Class C felony.
Ella Denise Bowen-Davis and Gary Lynn Bowen, both of Bismarck, were involved in a vehicle collision March 28, 2011 in which they collided with each other. Both Mr. Bowen and Mrs. Bowen-Davis gave multiple conflicting stories of how the collision happened. In the end, they stated that the cause of the collision was that the accelerator on Mrs. Bowen-Davis' car had gotten stuck just before she rear-ended Mr. Bowen's vehicle. The Insurance Department's fraud unit investigated the claim and is alleging that the collision was an intentional act.
"Insurance fraud affects the cost of insurance for every consumer in our state," Hamm said. "The Insurance Department takes insurance fraud very seriously and is dedicated to seeing that the people responsible are prosecuted."
