Hamm: Minot insurance agent arrested, charged with felony theft of property

Posted on 11/4/2010

BISMARCK, N.D.-North Dakota Insurance Commissioner Adam Hamm announced today that a Minot insurance agent has been arrested and charged with felony theft of property.

Alan R. Henning, 57, allegedly obtained unauthorized loans totaling $140,000 against the assets of the insurance company for which he works, West McLean County Mutual Insurance Company. He is also alleged to have written unauthorized checks to himself from the company's account totaling $666,000 and to have removed records from the office.

The loans and checks were discovered during a routine audit by Insurance Department examiners this week. Henning was arrested and detained Wednesday. He is scheduled to appear in court today on the charge of theft of property.

"The Department's examiners are still reviewing the files," Hamm said. "Our investigation is ongoing in an attempt to ensure no further harm is done."
