Hamm presented the information Aug. 6 to the Interim IBL committee, chaired by Rep. George Keiser. Hamm's overview presentation included information about the Department's regulatory authority, responsibilities and roles; challenges in the health insurance market; the process of reviewing premium increase requests; alternatives to increasing health insurance premiums; and the effects of multiple premium increases on the uninsured and underinsured.
Hamm also outlined the health care reform proposals currently being considered by Congress, including the House Tri-Committee Bill and the Senate HELP Committee Bill. Hamm will continue to provide updates to the Interim IBL committee as the health care reform debate continues.
