Hamm revokes Fargo insurance agent's license Posted on 2/11/2009
BISMARCK, N.D.-North Dakota Insurance Commissioner Adam Hamm today revoked the insurance license of Larry Atkins, a Fargo insurance agent who was charged with 78 felonies in 2008. The revocation bars him from selling, soliciting or negotiating insurance in North Dakota.
Atkins' felony convictions relate to engaging in fraudulent practices, selling unregistered securities, transacting business as an unregistered agent and exploiting a vulnerable adult. The Insurance Department served him with a cease and desist order April 25, 2008, barring him from engaging in the business of insurance. He was sentenced Monday to eight years in prison.
"Mr. Atkins' behavior was utterly reprehensible," Hamm said. "He violated the trust that people gave him and caused disastrous results to their lives."
Hamm continued, "His total and complete breach of ethical behavior is truly shameful. Revoking his license ensures that he will never again be able to work with North Dakota insurance consumers."
Consumers with questions about insurance policies through Atkins can call the North Dakota Insurance Department at 1-800-247-0560.
