Hamm announces free Turning 65 events

Posted on 7/29/2008

BISMARCK, N.D.-Insurance Commissioner Adam Hamm announced today that the North Dakota Insurance Department's State Health Insurance Counseling (SHIC) program is offering two free Turning 65 events in August, aimed at helping North Dakotans turning 65 and others who are new to Medicare.

"We have been receiving an increasing number of calls from people who are new to Medicare that need assistance," Hamm said. He said the increase in calls can be partially attributed to the aging baby boomer population.

Bismarck's Turning 65 seminar will be held 6:30-9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5 at the Days Inn, 1300 Capitol Ave. Fargo's Turning 65 seminar will be held 6:30-9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12 at the Country Inn and Suites, 3316 13th Ave. S.

The free seminars include information about Medicare Part D, Medicare supplements and Medicare Advantage plans.

People attending are asked to RSVP by Aug. 1. For more information, call 1.888.575.6611 or email janfrank@nd.gov.
SHIC offers free and confidential help with Medicare and other health insurance.
