Hamm reports on Rolette County tornado damage Posted on 7/9/2008
BISMARCK, N.D.-North Dakota Insurance Commissioner Adam Hamm today reported that the tornadoes that went through portions of Rolette County, including the communities of Rolla and Belcourt, caused considerable damage to homes, buildings and trees in the area. Commissioner Hamm traveled to the area on Tuesday with Governor Hoeven and viewed the damage first hand.
Hamm encouraged residents to: 1. Contact their insurance agent/company to report a claim and start the claim process; 2. Take the necessary steps to make temporary repairs to any exterior damage to prevent any further damage to the home or personal property and to protect your property; and 3. Start making an inventory of property that was lost and/or damaged as a result of the tornado.
While it is still too early to have any firm damage assessment, the North Dakota Insurance Department will monitor the insurance industry as they begin the process of settling claims.
"We expect that insurance companies will promptly respond to the needs of their policyholders. If residents encounter any unreasonable delays in the process or have questions regarding the claims process, they are welcome to call the department for assistance," Hamm said.
The Insurance Department can be contacted at 701-328-2440 or 1-800-247-0560.
