Insurance Commissioner Godfread Appoints Ubben and Ost on First Day in Office

Bismarck, N.D. - Insurance Commissioner Jon Godfread today appointed Jeff Ubben as deputy insurance commissioner and Marcy Ost as executive assistant as part of his first official day in office. Ubben and Ost were both previously serving in the Insurance Department and bring a wealth of knowledge to their positions.
“Jeff and Marcy are both highly respected within the department and the industry, which makes them key personnel going forward,” Godfread said. “I look forward to working with them and the entire team within the Insurance Department.”
Ubben has served as general counsel for the Insurance Department for the past four years and will continue in that role in addition to his duties as deputy until a replacement is hired. He is a North Dakota native and earned his law degree from the University of North Dakota in 2006. Prior to becoming general counsel at the Insurance Department he served as an Assistant State’s Attorney for Burleigh County for several years where he successfully prosecuted multiple large insurance fraud cases.

In addition to these appointments, Godfread will be sworn in today by Chief Justice Gerald VandeWalle of the North Dakota Supreme Court. “This is an exciting time and I am truly honored by this opportunity to serve the citizens of North Dakota," Godfread said. “I look forward to working to protect consumers, and providing fair, consistent and accessible service North Dakotans deserve.”
