Hamm elected president of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners

Hamm2013.jpgBISMARCK, N.D.—Members of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) elected North Dakota Insurance Commissioner Adam Hamm to the position of president during a national meeting held this week. He will officially assume his duties Jan. 1, 2014. Hamm currently serves as NAIC president-elect.

“I am deeply honored to serve the nation’s eleven and a half thousand insurance regulators as NAIC president,” Hamm said. “I’m excited about the opportunity to work with my fellow insurance commissioners on the many important issues next year will bring.”

As president of the NAIC, Hamm's responsibilities will include participating in high-level national and international meetings where he will continue to advocate for America's state-based system for regulating insurance. One such meeting occurred on Tuesday when Hamm represented North Dakota and the NAIC at a meeting with U.S. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew.

"I greatly appreciated the in-depth discussion with Secretary Lew and I look forward to working together in 2014 on numerous issues important to our country and North Dakotans," he said.

Three other 2014 NAIC officers were elected at the meeting: President-Elect Monica Lindeen, Montana Insurance Commissioner; Vice President Michael Consedine, Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner; and Secretary-Treasurer Sharon Clark, Kentucky Insurance Commissioner.
