Poolman: Coleharbor Storm Damage Nearing $2 Million in Damage

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Jim Poolman
July 19, 2006 701-328-2440

Bismarck, ND - Insurance Commissioner Jim Poolman today reported that the recent storm in Coleharbor has so far caused nearly $2 million in damage.

As of today, reports to Poolman from several insurance carriers who write the bulk of the business in the affected area, indicated that over sixty claims have been made. Poolman said that these numbers could increase slightly as the claims process nears completion.

"I've encouraged the insurance companies to quickly respond to consumer claims and it seems that they are doing so. Many of the companies are nearing completion with the claims process and have already cut checks to many who were affected by this storm," Poolman said.

The estimate of damage takes into account claims from farms, ranches, homes, mobile homes, autos, other personal property, and some commercial property. However, the total does not include damage to crops and is not a final aggregate number.

Poolman said, "I will continue to monitor the claims process and will make sure that settlements are fair to consumers."

Any policyholder in the Coleharbor area who has questions or needs assistance with the claims process should contact the North Dakota Insurance Department - Consumer Hotline at 1-800-247-0560.
