Poolman: Time is Now to Sign up for Medicare Part D

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Jim Poolman
December 5, 2006 701-328-2440

Bismarck, ND - Insurance Commissioner Jim Poolman today reminded seniors that the deadline for enrolling in Medicare Part D is fast approaching.

Poolman said, "If you have been thinking about signing up for a Part D plan or need to change plans, now is the time take action."

Poolman added that seniors should think about:

  • COST: Check to see if your premium and other costs will change in 2007.
  • COVERAGE: Check to make sure that the prescriptions you are taking will still be covered by your plan in 2007.
  • CUSTOMER SERVICE: Make sure you are satisfied with your plan's service.
People who did not sign up last year or people who have recently become Medicare eligible should also find out if a Part D plan will benefit them. Medicare beneficiaries who are satisfied with their current plan do not have to do anything to re-enroll.

"Medicare Part D can save seniors hundreds of dollars every year on prescription drug costs. Seniors should take the time now to see if they can benefit from a Part D plan," Poolman said.

The Senior Health Insurance Counseling (SHIC) Program has staff and volunteers ready to assist seniors in person or help is also available over the phone by calling 1.888.575.6611. Seniors may also contact Medicare directly at 1-800-MEDICARE or visit Medicare's website at www.medicare.gov.
