Bismarck, ND - Insurance Commissioner Adam W. Hamm was sworn in today by Justice Dale Sandstrom of the North Dakota Supreme Court. Hamm was appointed to the position earlier this month by Governor Hoeven.

"I am truly honored by this opportunity to serve the citizens of North Dakota. I have known for a long time that public service is what interests me and this is my opportunity to use my skills to benefit others the most," Hamm said.

Hamm has most recently worked in the private sector as an associate attorney for the firm of Anderson Bottrell Sanden & Thompson located in Fargo, ND. Prior to that, Hamm served as an assistant states attorney at the Cass County State's Attorney's office and was involved in the prosecution of the Kyle Bell trial that resulted in a life sentence conviction and prompted tougher sex offender laws in North Dakota.

Hamm said, "I look forward to working always to protect consumers, while at the same time balancing this with fair and effective regulation that encourages competition and strengthens our insurance marketplace." "My priority is proactive consumer protection," he added.

Hamm is a native of Jamestown and has lived and worked in the Fargo area since 1998.
