Hamm reports 2009 flood-related insurance claims

BISMARCK, N.D.-North Dakota Insurance Commissioner Adam Hamm released numbers today showing spring flooding around the state caused more than $2.67 million in flood-related damages since March 1.

More than 930 flood-related claims were received March 1-May 27 and $2,671,462 in payments has been made to North Dakota consumers and businesses.

"Even though there was a large amount of flood-related damage around the state, the Department received a small number of calls and complaints," Hamm said.

He added that these numbers do not include any claims paid by the National Flood Insurance Program, but do reflect claims against home, farm and business property policies for sewer backup losses, sump pump failures and power outages.
