North Dakota's Renewable Energy Program (REP) was established by the Legislature in 2007 under the control of the North Dakota Industrial Commission. The law provides that the Industrial Commission shall consult with the Renewable Energy Council (REC). The Program's responsibilities include providing financial assistance as appropriate to foster the development of renewable energy, including wind, biofuels, biomass, solar, hydroelectric, geothermal, and hydrogen. As appropriate, the Commission shall provide funding for research, development, marketing and educational projects or activities. In addition the Program shall provide incentives for multi-feed facilities to process corn ethanol, cellulosic ethanol, canola biodiesel and soy biodiesel; incentives for scaleable technologies; and incentives to increase efficiencies such as co-product utilization technologies.

The 2007 Legislature established a Renewable Energy Fund and made a continuing appropriation of $20,000,000--$3,000,000 from the General Fund and $17,000,000 from Special Funds.

The Legislature further provided that the Commission shall contract with the Department of Commerce to provide technical assistance to the Renewable Energy Council and the Industrial Commission to carry out the law, including pursuit of aid, grants, or contributions of money and other things of value from any source for any purpose consistent with the law.

Meetings and Grant Round Dates:
Grant round deadline dates will be May 1 and November 1 of each year. Additional grant round deadline dates may be established by the Industrial Commission of North Dakota. Meetings have been tentatively established for August 27, 2008 and January 5, 2009.
