ROADCHECK 2012 COMPLETED

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 11th, 2012

Troopers and civilian safety inspectors from the North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP) Motor Carrier Division participated in the largest targeted commercial vehicle enforcement and educational program in the world.  The program, named Roadcheck, was sponsored by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) and was held June 5-7, 2012. Each year approximately 10,000 local, state, provincial, and federal inspectors at 1,500 locations across North America perform truck and bus inspections during this 72-hour time frame.

The inspections took place at the Apple Creek rest area east of Bismarck.  A summary of the event includes a total of 221 inspections completed with 319 violations detected.  Thirty five out-of-service violations were enforced, which included 14 trucks, 16 trailers, and five drivers.  One driver was arrested for DUI and another was arrested for being in possession of a loaded handgun.

CVSA is an international not-for-profit organization comprised of local, state, provincial, territorial, and federal motor carrier safety officials and industry representatives from the United States, Canada, and Mexico.  CVSA’s mission is to promote commercial motor vehicle safety and security by providing leadership to enforcement, industry, and policy makers. CVSA actively monitors, evaluates, and identifies solutions to potentially unsafe transportation processes and procedures related to driver and vehicle safety requirements most often associated with commercial motor vehicle crashes. Since its inception in 1988, over one million roadside inspections have been conducted during Roadcheck.
