Colonel James Prochniak, superintendent of the North Dakota Highway Patrol, announces the retirement of Trooper Steven D. Kirchoffner. Effective October 31, 2010, Trooper Kirchoffner retired as a sworn officer from the North Dakota Highway Patrol after 27 years of dedicated service.
Trooper Steven Kirchoffner began his career with the Highway Patrol in July 1983 attending the Highway Patrol Academy. Upon graduation from the Academy, he was assigned to the Dickinson Highway Patrol District and stationed as a trooper at Belfield. In December 1984, Kirchoffner was assigned to the Williston Highway Patrol District and stationed at Stanley. In October 1990, he was assigned to the Grand Forks District and stationed at Grand Forks. In July 1995, he was assigned to the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP) and has served in that position at Grand Forks until his retirement.
