BISMARCK, ND –The North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP) is continuing to see record demand for permit requests. As of June 25 the NDHP Permit Office had issued 194,544 permits totaling $10.7 million. To put the increase into perspective, 192,733 permits were issued for a total of $5.6 million during the entire 2008 calendar year. These numbers equate to an average of 1,105 permits being purchased per day this year compared to 528 permits purchased per day during 2008. Funds collected from the sale of permits go into the North Dakota Highway Fund.
The trucking industry plays a critical role in the expanding North Dakota economy, as products ranging from lumber to build homes to farm and road construction equipment are frequently moved on highway transportation systems across the nation. Certain loads require additional measures to help ensure the safe movement of product, which is where the NDHP Permits Office enters the picture.
Twenty seven permits are now available to be purchased online at www.nd.gov/ndhp. The Permit Office is located in room 139 in the DOT building at 608 East Boulevard Avenue in Bismarck. Their phone number is 701-328-2621. Business hours are Monday through Friday from 7:10 a.m. to 4:50 p.m.
