What do l do if l get a traffic ticket.
-When you receive a traffic ticket you must return the specified bond in the "bond envelope" provided with the citation within 14 days. You may simply place the bond in the envelope and send it to the address indicated on the envelope within 14 days. This results in an automatic forfeiture of the bond.
-However, you may at this time request a court hearing. You should sign your copy of the citation, in the space provided and return it to the address indicated, within the 14 days. If the courts determination is not guilty, the bond money will be returned to you.
Isn't traffic enforcement just another way to raise revenue?
No. Traffic enforcement is undertaken to keep the motoring public safe and to prevent vehicular accidents. Although fees are associated with specific offenses, the main objective is to help change a violator's future actions/behavior in order to keep the highways safe.
Why don't troopers concentrate on "serious" crimes instead of traffic offenses?
North Dakota Highway Patrol Troopers do concentrate on all types of "serious" crimes. Through their enforcement of traffic offenses, "serious" crimes (such as transportation/possession of illegal drugs, firearms, or alcohol violations) are discovered.
Why enforce speed?
The reason for speed enforcement is for safety of the motoring public and pedestrians that are along the roadway. Enforcing speed not only reduces the number of accidents but the severity of the accidents that do occur.
How do North Dakota troopers measure speed?
The Highway Patrol measures speed four ways: ·Radar- these are Doppler radar's with moving and stationary capabilities. This piece of equipment is mounted to the dash of the patrol car. ·LIDAR- this is a hand held laser speed measuring device that is used in a stationary position. ·Aircraft- the Highway Patrol pilots use stopwatches to measure the time it takes a vehicle to travel between two different aircraft markers to determine the speed of the vehicle. ·Pacing- a certified calibrated speedometer in the patrol car is used to match the speed of the violator's vehicle.
What is the speed limit in North Dakota?
The speed limit is 55 mph on gravel, loose dirt or on loose surfaced highways and on paved two-lane county and township highways if there is no speed limit posted. It's 65 mph on two-lane highways if posted for that speed. On paved four-lane divided highways the speed limit is 70 mph. The speed limit is 75 mph on interstate highways.(I-29, I-94)
How fast can I go without getting a speeding ticket?
The Highway Patrol enforces the posted speed limit in normal driving conditions. In inclement weather speed may be enforced at a lower speed than the posted limit.
