Pesticide Registration Program
State law requires that all pesticides be registered with the North Dakota Department of Agriculture prior to being distributed, sold, offered for sale, or used in the state. This includes agricultural, industrial, and homeowner products such as insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, disinfectant, rodenticides, and any other product intended to kill, repel, or mitigate a pest.
The Pesticide Registration program area manages the registration of over 11,000 pesticides. If you have questions regarding which pesticides are currently registered in North Dakota, please contact the Department or search the North Dakota Pesticide Registration Database.
The Department has contracted with Kelly Registration Systems (KRS) to streamline our registration process and to provide a more efficient electronic document management platform. Companies or individuals can submit applications and supporting documents online at www.kellysolutions.com/nd. This includes renewals and initial applications. Registrants can also use the online system to submit revised supporting documents and labels. Persons are strongly encouraged to use the online registration option. KRS assigns usernames and passwords to access the system. You may request a username and password by contacting KRS at 1-800-803-5777 or via email at ahayen@nd.gov.
The Department no longer accepts hard-copy pesticide labeling and Material Safety Data Sheets. The preferred method for registrants to submit electronic documents is through the KRS system. If that is not an option, registrants can submit electronic documents to the Department in portable document format (pdf) via email at reg@nd.gov or on a compact disc.
The Pesticide Registration program area issues Section 24(c) Special Local Needs (SLN) registrations and submits requests to EPA for Section 18 emergency exemptions. For general information on pesticide registrations and exemptions, please refer to the document "North Dakota Department of Agriculture Pesticide Registration and Exemption Guidelines" below or visit the Special Pesticide Registrations page.
