Voice mail is a centralized automated messaging system that manages telephone messages to a large group of people.
In the simplest form it can function as an answering machine; however, voice mail systems are usually much more
sophisticated and provide many additional features, such as:
- Answer many phones and take many messages at the same time.
- Store incoming messages in personalized voice mailboxes associated with individual users' phone numbers.
- Forward received messages to another users' voice mailbox, adding a personal message to the forwarded
message.
- Record/store messages for future delivery.
- Request acknowledgement of receipt of sent messages.
- Provide automated attendant services which enable callers to access information or self-route the call to a
specific person or department, or to an informational recording, voice mailbox, etc.
ITD currently utilizes Nortel CallPilot voice mail systems throughout North Dakota. For instructions on how to use
your CallPilot voice mailbox please see the CallPilot Instructions section of this website or contact the ITD
Service Center for support.
