ITD currently provides analog, digital and IP telephone services. Analog services are provided only when required for transmission over an analog medium (fax, modem, TDD, etc.). Digital services are provided in sites where there is a larger number of telephones in one location or building that are all connected to a digital telephone system at that location. Most state agencies currently utilize digital telephones. ITD is currently in the beginning stages of a multi-year conversion to IP telephones. IP telephones differ from conventional telephones in that they use the Internet or local data network to transmit the voice signal.
