Replacement of Desktop Phones by Cellular Devices Study (211kb pdf)

A mobile phone, or cell phone, is a long-range device used for voice or data communication over a wireless network of specialized stations known as cell sites, or cell towers. In addition to the standard voice function of a mobile phone, they also support many additional services such as text messaging, email, access to the Internet, gaming, photos, MP3 players, and GPS. Mobile phones should not be confused with cordless phones, which are also wireless but are still constricted to a limited range within a home or office.

ITD currently has contracts with both Verizon and Alltel for both voice and data devices and plans.
