Web streaming is a service offered by ITD that will allow an agency the ability to stream a video conference out to the web to be viewed by individuals on a standard web browser through either a Windows Media or QuickTime video stream. It provides streaming video and audio and is used when remote users are unable to physically participate at one of the conventional video endpoints scheduled into the video conference. Interaction is very limited and is primarily used for monitoring the conference rather than actively participating in it.

It is important to note that there are two types of web streaming and that streaming is not the same as recording as is often thought. A web stream can be viewed from a live event or a web stream can be viewed from a recorded video event (IPVCR). The difference is as follows:

Codian Multipoint Control Units

The Codian MCU's (or Multipoint Control Units) have the ability to provide a live web stream that can be viewed for a live video event right from the MCU itself. If an IPVCR has NOT been added to a reservation, an event cannot be retrieved once the live video event has completed. There is no charge for this type of web stream although it does have to be enabled in your Renovo video reservation from the MCU SETUP screen under the Streaming option. Select UNICAST if you want this feature enabled as in the screen shot below.

A PIN code can be used as an added level of security, but is not required. If the event scheduler would prefer to have an added level of security, they would enter a PIN code from the Renovo MCU SETUP page near the Streaming option, as below.

The follow up process for the customer would be to contact ITD sometime within 48 hours before the meeting launches. The customer would provide the Renovo conference ID number and the MCU name (if known) to ITD and ask for the MCU conference ID (which is assigned once Renovo passes the conference over to the MCU). Personnel at ITD can then log into the MCU in question and look up the conference ID needed for streaming the live event. For example, an agency calls into the ITD service desk or NOC and asks for the streaming conference ID for Renovo conference ID 51002 which is on the Bismarck MCU. Logging into the Bismarck MCU and clicking on the Conferences tab, ITD personnel can see that the MCU conference ID (which is labeled by column name Numeric ID) is 48744 and that is what they provide back to the requesting entity. Once the video event launches, the remote user would then go to http://165.234.136.5 with a standard web browser. The URL http://165.234.136.5 is the video conference web streaming link for the Bismarck MCU. The Fargo MCU is http://165.234.136.6 and the Minot MCU is http://165.234.136.7. Once the remote user loads the page, they would type in their name and the Conference ID number they received from ITD, as well as any PIN code they would have used when creating the Renovo reservation, although a PIN is not required if one was not entered on the Renovo side.

The remote user would select how they wish to stream the conference (i.e. Windows Media or QuickTime) and then click on the "Stream this conference" button. A new window would open and they would begin viewing the conference.

** If the remote user has chosen Windows Media as their choice and they have NEVER streamed an event from one of the Codian devices before, they will have to install a small software client to view the web stream. The client is located on the same page as the Windows Media viewer in the lower left-hand corner as shown below.

The remote user will need to follow the screen prompts and agree to allow the client to be installed on their PC. After the install completes, you'll need to close all open browser windows and open a new browser window. Stream the video conference from the newly opened browser window.

Codian IPVCR

The other option for web streaming a video conference is to record the video event using a Codian IPVCR. A video event that is being recorded can be streamed from both the live event and also from the recorded video file after the live event has completed. There is a $10 charge for recording the video conference through the use of an IPVCR which allows for unlimited viewings within 7 days. **Please refer to the Recording section of this web site for more information about setting up a video conference to record.

Using a standard web browser, remote users would then load the page at either http://165.234.136.11 for IPVCR 1 or http://165.234.136.12 for IPVCR 2 and then be shown a list of available folders from the home page.

Next, click on the appropriate IPVCR folder name and type in the PIN code for access into that folder as shown below.

You will now have the option to stream a video conference by clicking on the WATCH link from the list displayed.

You can then select the format for streaming the video recording. Two commonly used formats include Windows Media Player and QuickTime. After selecting speed and format, click the "Start Streaming" button to begin viewing the recorded video file.

** It is important to note that if you have chosen Windows Media Player as your selected format and you have NEVER viewed a recorded or streamed video event from your PC before, you WILL need to install a small software client which is located in the lower left-hand corner of the viewing window as depicted below.

Just follow all of the screen prompts after clicking the link " Click here " and agree to have the client installed on your machine. After the install, you will have to close ALL open browser windows and re-open a new browser window in order to view the recorded video file.
