Services Offered
The function of the Information Technology Department security section is to provide the State of North Dakota with a secure computer network to conduct the state's business.
The Information Technology Department Security Section provides, at no cost, security to the State of North Dakota agencies to include OS/390, AS/400, NDSTATE, NDGOV, Firewall Administration, and File transfer Protocol (FTP). The ITD Security Section also provides, for an additional cost, Dial-up Access, Virtual Private Network (VPN), Digital Certificates, Biometrics Authentication and Anti Virus.

Projects
VPN – A virtual private network has been put into place by ITD for the State of North Dakota. This network will allow for secure communications between the unprotected and protected side of the State of North Dakota computer network.
Entrust PKI – ITD has put into place a Public Key Infrastructure that allows for encrypted and secure communications. This PKI gives the State of North Dakota the ability to issue digital certificates for a wide variety of applications.
Biometrics – A biometrics authentication system has been put into place to provide the Department of Human Services and Highway Patrol the ability to log into computers that are located in a public place with credentials such as fingerprints, that only authorized personnel will have. The biometrics security solution is now available if you are using NT 4.0 operating system and a member of NDSTATE.
Intrusion Detection – ITD has been researching an Intrusion Detection system. This project is in the phase of product research.
