State Personnel Board Election Notice for Classified Employees
Human Resource Management Services is seeking candidates to serve a six-year term on the State Personnel Board. The Board meets at least once a year with the primary responsibility of fostering and assuring a system of personnel administration in the classified service of state government. The Board promulgates rules, reviews classification and pay grade appeals and the state compensation plan, and approves positions not to be included in the classified service.
For details on candidate eligibility and how to get your name on the ballot, please refer to the Election Notice.
State Government Internship Stipend Program
HRMS received $200,000 in general fund authority for the 2009-11 biennium to begin the State Government Student Internship Stipend Program. All Executive Branch agencies, except higher education, are invited to participate in this educational program. We estimate hiring at least ten interns the first year and 20 the second year at approximately $10 per hour. We are asking agencies to fund 50 percent of the intern’s salary, if possible, to help stretch the dollars.
When hiring interns from North Dakota’s colleges, universities, and vocational/technical institutions, the employer benefits extensively:
- Students from the educational arena can provide fresh ideas and viewpoints, along with unique skills, which can be stimulating and reinvigorating to the workplace.
- Job recruitment is an ongoing process - whether you’re looking for someone to fill in for a regular employee who has been deployed or is on extended leave or you're looking for someone to replace the baby boomer approaching retirement. One big advantage to hiring an intern is that the employer has the opportunity to evaluate the perspective employee for a reasonable length of time before making a firm commitment. And once hired, the student can “hit the ground running.”
If your agency is interested in advertising for an intern and receiving funding, you are welcome to place your internship position on our Vacancy Index. As applications come in to our office, HR Officer Kate O’Neill will do an initial screening and then forward the applications to the agency for further review. You will also need to complete an Internship Work Plan. For more information, please refer to the State Government Student Internship Program. You may also contact Kate O'Neill at koneill@nd.gov or 328-1016.
